Residence, Maine Coast

Nearing the completion of a major renovation and addition, we’ve touched every nook and cranny of this 1940s Art Moderne villa. Close collaboration with the long-time owner and a talented builder created new and restored living space, bathrooms, kitchen, wall space, and improved circulation with a new elevator and two circular stairways – one new and one rebuilt. A highlight was getting to know Vitrolite, a pigmented structural glass that was the rage in the 1920s - 1940s. We lured Timothy Dunn, the nation’s Vitrolite expert on salvage, supply, restoration, and installation to come and work his magic, restoring red, black, and green glass panels, both original to the house and salvaged from afar, to complement adjacent materials, details and finishes.
